January was Human Trafficking Prevention Month, and our guest speaker is our club secretary, Mandy Havlik. She will be sharing her experience of surviving child marriage and current efforts to abolish child marriage in California this year. Come learn how you can become a part of the California Coalition to Abolish Child Marriage.
Mandy works with Unchained At Last, a survivor-led non-profit organization dedicated to ending forced and child marriage in the United States. She also works with Zonta International, an international service organization with the mission of Building a Better World for Women and Girls. Here is a recent article about her experience and the work being done to stop this practice in the United States.

Dave Fisher (pictured above) has been with the libraries at UC San Diego for 39+ years and lives in Clairemont. He became a Democrat when President Obama ran for president and wants to work on outreach to build membership.
Dave Engel (pictured above), an “acolyte of Derek and Nancy Casady” and a civil engineer with the City of San Diego, is grateful for having grown up in a diverse neighborhood in the Bronx, NY.

2024 Central Committee Candidates, AD 77 and AD 78
The Democratic Central Committee (DCC) is the governing body of the County Democratic Party. It is comprised of local Democrats elected by voters in each Assembly District, as well as partisan-level Democratic elected officials and nominees. This group conducts the County Party's general business, approves its budget, coordinates Democratic campaign activity, and endorses candidates for local offices. Please make sure to vote on Tuesday, March 5th for no more than 6 candidates for the Democratic Central Committee.
Last month, we invited all candidates for Central Committee Assembly District 77 to our club meeting to introduce themselves and share why they are running. Thank you to all of the candidates who came and introduced themselves to our members.
Twenty-two people are running for DCC in the 77th Assembly District which encompasses the PL-OB Democratic Club. Candidates running for DCC in the 78th District were also provided an opportunity to speak.
